Planets in Medical Astrology: Planets as Organs
This article is a prerequisite for the “On the spot” method article and an introduction to this subject, not a full exploration of planetary correspondence and rulership in relation to the organs and organ systems. If I were to do so, it would be a chapter due to the need to understand how the thought process of anatomy and physiology differs from ancient times compared to our modern conception.
Unlike the zodiac as locations of the body, the planets in relationship to organs and organ systems is not so universalized. “Western” (which is really Afro-Asiatic-Mediterrian-Euro) and Jyotish (Vedic Astrology) completely differ in planetary rulership of the organs and organ systems. The “Western” tradition itself also has many variances. I will share two templates of a “traditional” and a modern perspective.
The main two sources utilized in this article are Nicolas Culpepper for the traditional indications and Sajah Popham for the modern. They are very similar and it is one of the reasons I chose these two practitioners. Again, in later writings, I will unpack this in for more detail, but for now, I wanted to present something easily accessible.
The Organ to planet correspondence is below:
Note the similarities and differences for now. Take this information with you forward to the on the spot method article and in your continued education of Medical Astrology. Look for more in depth explorations in the coming year on this and many other topics.
